Date: From October 3rd through October 17th (submissions). Voting to take place between October 18th and October 25th.

Prize: 10 credits on Alphabot; in addition, we'll do something else with it (possibly create another contest based on the winner, maybe an article about the card...to be determined!).

Contest: Create a creature based on an "existing" Dragon. What do I mean by "existing"? This means that your card must be based on a Dragon from some other source - for example, a novel, a comic, a game - anything so long as it exists, and you can tell us where its from. Here are a couple examples (so you see what we mean, feel free to use these!): Smaug from The Hobbit, Saphira from Eragon, Onyxia from World of Warcraft...there are probably thousands to choose from!

Rules: Enter as many times as you'd like, assuming that each entry you do is a different existing dragon. You must include where your Dragon is from with your submission, and if possible (not required, but helpful in voting), a little info on that Dragon (even a Wikipedia link would be helpful). Please enter your submissions by responding to this post; I will also post this thread on the MTGO Boards - A submission in either location will count (though posting in both locations would be very helpful!!). At the conclusion of submissions, I will copy/paste those submissions made on only one of these locations to the other so that everyone can view all submissions in one place. Please submit only your ideas, or with the permission of the person who created the card.

Voting: With the previous contest, I left it open to popular vote...it remains to be seen how well that will work...but as there have been some complaints about this, I suspect there is something better. I'll leave this section as TBA, but I won't force anyone to sign up on the MTGOCasual forums to vote (by creating a poll here). Any suggestions on the best way to do voting would be appreciated!

Good luck - looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

My submission is based on one of the major dragon characters showcased in the table top roleplaying game Shadowrun. The quote is from Dunkelzahn's Will.

Bio

Dunkelzahn (circa 13,000 BC–August 9, 2057) was a Western Great Dragon. He was the 7th President of the UCAS elected, and the 52nd President of the USA and UCAS, during the UCAS Special Presidential Election of 2057 and assassinated shortly after. The policy led by his sucessor Kyle Haeffner can still be considered as marked by Dunkelzahn’s ambitions to fight against racism, exclusion and poverty and renew UCAS international relations.

Dunkelzahn first Awakened in Cherry Creek Lake, Denver on January 12, 2012, weeks after the first dragon sightings.

In 2057, his citizenship allowed him to run in the Presidential Election, as an independent. He won by a narrow margin on 7 August. A few hours after being sworn in on 9 August, he died in the explosion of his limousine near Watergate Hotel.

This resulted in an 'Astral Rift' at the site of his death; every mage who attempted to study it either died or was driven insane.

It would subsequently be revealed that Dunklezahn committed suicide in order to power a magical artifact called The Dragon Heart which would be used to keep humanity safe from a great enemy from another plane of existence.

At this date, Dunkelzahn served the shortest Presidential term ever in USA and UCAS history: 10 hours 23 minutes and 8 seconds. He is so far the only non-human and only dragon to hold the office of President of the USA or UCAS, easily making him the tallest, longest and heaviest President ever (under human form he stayed well under Lincoln’s 193cm; but according to some rumors, he privately said his human form was voluntarily shorter than Lincoln), the first blue president, the oldest acting President, and the only president to be born before the Christian era.

ok here my submissions.

In FF5, the ultimate dragon hides in a normal treasure box, but if the unwary traveler opens it, WHOA! It uses powerful water attacks and absorbs basically anything but physical damage. plus when you start the fight, he sends a powerful wave attack that kills most of your party. making this a really tough boss.

this was found off of
http://www.canadiandragon.com/gallery/drawings-dragonfire.html
Its aka fire dragon but its phoenix like form makes it more look like a phoenix dragon.

This dragon comes from the awesome game the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. you can learn about him here.
http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Argorok

this is from the Crossgen series. an article can be found here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiara
as for the abilities. (they're real)
Super haste- (This may attack the turn before you play it. (You may put this card into play from your hand, tapped and attacking, during your declare attackers step. If you do, you lose the game at the end of your next turn unless you pay this card’s mana cost during that turn.))

this is TROGODOR from homestarrunner. he has his own wiki page too
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trogdor#Trogdor

Phalanx is from shadow of the colosus. he is dragonlike but here he is anyways.
Phalanx is the thirteenth colossus. A serpent with a long slender body and a long beak and many sets of wings, this colossus is notable in that it makes no attempt to harm Wander in any way; he will only take damage from clinging to the giant's fur as it burrows back into the ground, or from falling off of it as it flies.

edited version of Trogdor.
all of the following dragons were found here.
http://www.jayfrenchstudios.com/index.html
-----------------------------------------EDIT. dragon updated and fixed.

this dragon is like my version of a wayward creature. when the dragon is tainted by a curse of darkness, death trensforms him into a chaotic beast whose soul is devowered. only light could then vanquish the beast.

a powerful snow dragon

My dragon is based off of D&D.

"Balagos is Ulla Bahor in the tongue of the gnoll. Shortened to Bahor, this name has passed into wider use among the humans. Whatever he is called, this giant dragon is a fearsome foe who delights in slaughtering adventurers, wizards, and dragons alike."

"This great red wyrm is legendary for his gigantic size and temper, and for the spells he hurls so often and recklessly in his boisterous, brawling rise to supremacy (he intends) over all Faerûnian dragonkind."
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/wn/20020130a

This one is also based off of D&D.

"Palarandusk spends his days in diligent guardianship and contemplating ways in which his body can be magically strengthened. He avoids other dragons whenever possible, and the noted draconic expert Velsaert of Baldur's Gate is unaware of Palarandusk, although he has recorded several "unconfirmed rumors with a shared subject: invisible wyrm melting into visibility and attacking" in the vicinity of Leilon."

This is Bahamut, the legendary dragon from the Final Fantasy series.

This is Draco, you may remember him from the movie Dragonheart.

and my favorite, Shuruga who was a character in a series of books by author Raymond E. Feist.

Falkor is a dragon featured in the movie The Never Ending Story.

Here's a wikpedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falkor

And here's a dragon that was simply called Icefang by a tribe of barbarians in R.A. Salvatore's book Icewind Dale.

Everyone else seems to have a take on Bahamut from the Final Fantasy series, so here's mine. It's the Bahamut from FF I, the one who grants the heroes a new title after they bring him a rat's tail. I think this captures him in that game.

A few changes:

Someone on another board created The Internet in response to this card. So I added the subtype "Magazine," and of course made the border old-style in response.

Fixed his power/toughness a bit.

A new video game homage.

isn't it supposed to be jsut about existing dragons, not artifacts that aren't very related to dragons.

Yes, it should be existing dragons - though I suppose a dragon could exist in artifact form (I guess it depends on the context). I'll make the ultimate call when I decide what entries qualify - but - keep in mind that if you do use an artifact, help me out with some context!

Barney The Blue Dragon

4UUU
Banding, Haste, Flying, Trample, First Strike,

When Barney The Blue Dragon comes into play, sacrifice it unless you sing that annoying song about loving people.

If Barney were to be put into a graveyard from play, do a happy dance, if you don't you lose the game.

Barney's power and toughness are equal to number of friends you have

"Barney got shot by a G I Joe"

If you don't know who barney is, Thank God, if you do, man you've been brutaly traumatized like most of us have being kids.
