Well, last night's event 2/7/08 of 3hg was certainly started off as a nice change with the banning of Dreaded returns, Illusionist, Minds Desire, Erayo, and Kokusho. It took Teps from the field. Other combos were taken out of the mix with Illusionist being on the self. So what made the most of this restricted field. Goblins. Just hords of them all over the tables.
At one table BAPE619 played a version of an elf deck. With a Gurrak and Nath on the table he was looking like he had a good commanding beat down to pass along to the team of GoldBlade TheUsual Suspect and Subaru_man. BAPE619's team mates of Ahammer (gobblins) and GermanSmurf (Blue Counter) looked a few turns away from a win. With a Ringleader AHammer set the top of his deck only to find it lacking in gobblins. After dropping a Gobblin Piledriver into play AHammer attacked with all goblins hasted for 21 damage leaving the opponents at 4 life. With their backs against the wall GoldBlade, TheUsualSuspect and subaru_man had to pull something out or go home. After all the cards played out, they got on the bus and were dropped off at each of their homes in a timely manner.
On another table it was Outsider's goblins that went off and killed on the 3rd turn. With a Goblin War chief and Goblin Warrens going off Outsider ran over the field.
The Next round gave AHammer and his team a bye leaving Latency, YizzleStakz and GiantDwarf to face Outsider, Bulldog333 and Willstogs. Willstogs, playing first for his team, set up the kill for Outsider by playing rites of Flourishing. Playing in the 1 position gave both his
That next match ended with TheUsualSuspect's team loosing and the final table had finally come to being.
The Final Table ended with Latency's team taking the win after a disconnection problem for AHammer on what looked like the turn he would go off with his deck. After waiting nearly 11 minutes AHammer was dropped and the table waited for the player in the number 3 slot after AHammer also. Let me just get this out there in the open. If you are going to walk away and not come back to the table for some time because some one on your team has disconnected in a match. Just go ahead and say something and log out the program. If you say nothing and then cut the power to the computer it really leaves everyone under the bus waiting for the auto-boot to kick in.
So by the end of the game everyone had waited 20 minutes for winnings to be announced. For those of us with jobs to go to in the morning, which is nearly all of us that can afford to just scramble up some weak excuse of a card collection, the event ended in a very nasty and anticlimactic down turn. Mostly due to the lack of defined rules to the event. After some point I started to think players were setting games up wrong just to mess with TinyTim. But all in all he kept his cool with some guidance from TheUsualSuspect.
Well we will all have to see what happens next time. Will the goblins hold the ground they claimed this week or will some one drop a Arcane lab putting the locks on the goblins.
